Compressor buying guide for the UAE
The compressor is the heart of every split, ducted and package air conditioner, and in UAE conditions it works harder than almost anywhere else: 45 °C+ ambient, condensing temperatures near 60 °C and long daily run hours. When one fails, the replacement must match the original in four respects — refrigerant family, capacity, electrical supply and connections. Get any of those wrong and the new compressor either will not fit, will not start, or will fail early.
1. Refrigerant family: ZR or ZP
Copeland ZR scroll compressors are designed for R22 and R407C-type refrigerants; ZP compressors are built for R410A, which runs at about 1.6 times the pressure. They are not interchangeable. Check the refrigerant on the outdoor unit nameplate or the old compressor's label. Read Copeland ZR vs ZP for the full comparison.
2. Capacity
Match the rated cooling capacity (BTU/h or kW) shown on each product page to the original unit — not the nominal number in the model code. The BOTANVÈ range runs from about 6 kW (ZP36, ~2.6 HP) to 120,000 BTU/h (ZR144, 12 HP). Undersizing starves the system; oversizing raises pressures and current draw.
3. Electrical code
PFJ and PFZ codes are 220–240 V single-phase; TFD is 380–420 V three-phase. Villas and apartments in the UAE are usually single-phase up to about 5 HP; larger ducted units and most commercial equipment are three-phase. See how to read a Copeland model number.
4. Connections and oil
Suction and discharge sizes, oil type (mineral for most ZR, POE for ZP) and oil charge are listed in each spec table. The bill-of-materials suffix (-522, -622) defines fittings; match it where your OEM specifies it.

Replacement best practice
- Recover the refrigerant; never vent.
- If the old compressor burnt out, flush the system and fit a suction-line filter drier as well as a new liquid-line drier.
- Braze with nitrogen purge; pull a vacuum to 500 microns or better.
- Charge by weight, then verify with superheat (fixed orifice) or subcooling (TXV).
- Check running amps against the rated load on the spec table.

Do you stock single-phase compressors?
Yes — PFJ/PFZ models such as ZR42K3E-PFJ and ZR48K3E-PFJ are single-phase 220–240 V; TFD models are three-phase.
Can I use a ZP compressor in an R22 system?
No. ZP is for R410A only; use ZR for R22.
Do you sell rotary or reciprocating compressors?
