Refrigerant buying guide for UAE technicians
Three refrigerants cover almost all AC service work in the UAE: R22 in older split and window units, R410A in most units installed since about 2010, and R134a in refrigeration, chillers and automotive systems. They are not interchangeable — the gas on the equipment nameplate is the gas you must use. Within each gas, the choice between brands comes down to price per kilogram, availability and any client preference for a manufacturer brand such as Honeywell.

How to compare prices
Cylinder prices look similar but fill weights differ (commonly 11.3 kg for R410A, 13.6 kg for R22 and R134a). Divide the price by the fill weight to compare per kilogram. See the R410A price guide and R22 buying guide.
Handling and charging
- Store and transport cylinders upright, secured and out of direct sun — a van interior in July can exceed 60 °C.
- Charge R410A as liquid to preserve the blend ratio; R22 and R134a can be charged as vapour or liquid.
- Charge by weight, then verify with superheat or subcooling — never by pressure alone in UAE ambient conditions.
- Recover refrigerant when opening a system; venting is prohibited.
- Use gauge sets rated for the gas (R410A needs 800 psi high-side gauges).
Which brand?
Honeywell Genetron is the premium manufacturer brand. Refron, Floron and Mafron are the established service-market brands most UAE workshops use day to day; Freeze is a budget option. Refrigerants FAQs
Which refrigerant does my AC use?
It is printed on the outdoor unit nameplate. Most units installed before 2010 use R22; most since then use R410A; newer units may use R32, which BOTANVÈ can source on request.
Can I mix R22 and R410A?
No. They have different pressures and oils; mixing damages the compressor.
How much gas does a 1.5-ton split hold?
Typically 1.0–1.4 kg; the exact charge is on the nameplate plus an allowance per metre of extra pipe.
Do you deliver refrigerant to all Emirates?
Yes — next business day.
Is R22 still available?
Yes, for servicing existing equipment; supply is reducing under the HCFC phase-out and prices tend to rise.
Do you sell R32 or R407C?
Not in the online catalogue at present; both can be sourced — ask on WhatsApp.
