Refron vs Floron vs Mafron Refrigerants

Refron, Floron and Mafron are the service-market refrigerant brands most commonly found in UAE AC workshops, alongside Honeywell's Genetron range at the premium end. All three supply the everyday gases — R22, R410A and R134a — in standard disposable cylinders. The differences come down to which gases each brand offers at BOTANVÈ, price, and consistency of supply.

How to choose between brands

All three brands supply refrigerants that meet the purity standards required for HVAC-R service work in the UAE. The practical differences are fill weight, price per kilogram and availability. Refron and Floron are the most widely stocked; Mafron and Freeze are alternatives when the others are out of stock. Honeywell Genetron is the international brand and commands a small premium.

When comparing prices, always calculate the cost per kilogram rather than the per-cylinder price — fill weights vary between brands and between R22 and R410A cylinders. Check the specification table on each product page for the fill weight before ordering.

Storing and handling refrigerant cylinders

Store cylinders upright in a ventilated area away from heat sources and direct sunlight. UAE summer temperatures can exceed 45°C — never leave cylinders in a vehicle or exposed to direct sun. Transport cylinders secured in the upright position. All refrigerants listed by BOTANVÈ are supplied as labelled by the manufacturer; do not decant between cylinders or mix refrigerants.

For bulk cylinder orders for maintenance contracts or project work, request a bulk quotation with the gas type, cylinder quantity and delivery Emirate. We can quote multi-brand comparisons side by side.

Prices at BOTANVÈ

Prices are BOTANVÈ catalogue prices in AED including VAT at the time of writing (2026-08-30); they change with supplier costs and exchange rates — the product page always shows the current price.

How to judge refrigerant quality

  • Purity to AHRI 700. Reputable brands state conformance; contaminated or off-spec gas shows up as abnormal pressures and poor capacity.
  • Correct fill weight. Weigh a new cylinder if in doubt; short-filled cylinders are a known problem with unbranded gas.
  • Blend accuracy for R410A. A properly blended cylinder gives the expected pressure–temperature relationship; check with the superheat calculator PT data.
  • Cylinder condition. Intact valve, no corrosion, correct colour code and labelling.

BOTANVÈ supplies these brands as labelled by the manufacturer and does not repackage refrigerant.

Which to choose

For routine R22 top-ups, Refron, Floron and Mafron are all in regular use and pricing is close; buy on availability and price per kilogram. For R410A, Refron and Floron cover most needs; specify Honeywell Genetron AZ-20 where the client or warranty requires a manufacturer brand. Buying by the case? Request a bulk quotation.
